Heatherton Driving School

If your driving test is booked at VicRoads Heatherton, there is no better suburb to learn in than Heatherton itself. The centre sits at 77 Corporate Drive, Heatherton VIC 3202, in the commercial precinct between Old Dandenong Road and Warrigal Road. Testing officers who walk out of that building run their assessments on the same handful of surrounding streets, week in, week out: Corporate Drive itself, Old Dandenong Road, Kingston Road, Warrigal Road and Centre Dandenong Road.

Sprint instructors teach on those exact roads every week. By test day you will have driven the approach to the centre, its entry and exit, and the common assessment streets dozens of times in real lesson conditions.

Two details before you book anything at this centre:

• Drive tests only, no computer tests. VicRoads Heatherton does not run computer-based testing. You cannot sit your Learner Permit knowledge test or Hazard Perception Test here. Book those online or at another VicRoads centre, then come to Heatherton for the practical test.
• Office hours, and slots go early. The centre operates 8:30am to 4:30pm, Monday to Friday. Drive test bookings fill weeks ahead, so lock in your date first and build your final lessons around it.

Test routes from 77 Corporate Drive use the roads immediately around the centre before extending into the neighbouring suburbs. Based on the routes our instructors drive with test-ready students:

• Around the centre: Corporate Drive, Old Dandenong Road and Kingston Road carry the first and last minutes of the test, including the entry and exit of the centre car park.
• Arterial driving: Warrigal Road, South Road and Centre Dandenong Road test lane discipline, speed-zone changes and multi-lane intersections at real traffic pace.
• Extended routes: assessments regularly run toward the Dingley Bypass and into Moorabbin, Cheltenham and Bentleigh via Keys Road, Wickham Road and East Boundary Road.
• Manoeuvres: parallel parking and three-point turns happen on the quieter residential and industrial side streets near the centre, where kerbside space is generous but trucks are a regular hazard to check for.

In the weeks before your test, every lesson is built around these conditions. Your final lesson runs right before your test time, in the car you trained in.

On test day at VicRoads Heatherton, arrive at 77 Corporate Drive at least 15 minutes before your booking, with your Victorian learner permit and a roadworthy car. The testing officer checks the car is safe before you drive, so a failed light or bald tyre can end the test before it starts. Work through the checklist below the night before.

Heatherton is a semi-industrial suburb about 18km south east of Melbourne’s CBD, in the City of Kingston. For learner drivers it offers a useful mix: quiet residential streets for early lessons, industrial access roads with truck traffic for hazard practice, and major arterials, Warrigal Road and Centre Dandenong Road, for multi-lane confidence. The market gardens along Old Dandenong Road add slow farm vehicles to the mix as well.

Getting a Victorian licence runs in three stages, and Sprint teaches through all of them.

Stage 1, Learner Permit. You must pass the VicRoads computer-based knowledge test before supervised driving starts. One local catch: VicRoads Heatherton does not run computer tests, so sit your permit test online or at another centre. Minimum age 16. Stage 2, supervised hours. Victorian learners under 21 need 120 supervised hours including 20 at night. Every Sprint lesson in Heatherton is logged and counts. Lessons run through the exact conditions your logbook needs: night driving, arterials, residential streets and car parks.

Stage 3, the practical test. For Heatherton learners this usually happens at 77 Corporate Drive. Your final lessons run the surrounding streets, and your test-day lesson finishes at the centre right before your booking.
